Sarah certainly has changed.
She used to be my least favorite character because of her blind ambition and seeming lack of concern for others’ feelings, but all of a sudden, she is an important part of Maddy’s world… and she has an emotional storyline of her own.
I’m not sure when that happened, but it certainly was a lot more interesting — and easy to follow — than most of Matlock Season 2 Episode 11.

Maddy and Julian Spent Most of Matlock Season 2 Episode 11 Chasing Another Hard-to-Understand Goal
The hour began with Julian pretending to rear-end Maddy so that the two of them could get into a sleazy lawyer’s office… for some reason.
They kept saying they had to get their hands on a scientist’s files, but I didn’t understand what they were doing or why they thought this was a great plan.
The point seemed to be the evolution of Julian and Maddy’s relationship, but that was buried inside yet another convoluted plot that was almost impossible to follow.
It would have made more sense if the two of them were simply trying to prove this guy was a sleazy lawyer who got people payouts for fake injuries.

Maddy was the perfect person to expose that kind of scheme, and the lawyer wouldn’t have suspected a thing.
He quickly showed her an assortment of fake canes and promised to intimidate Julian with threats about a nonexistent video.
If Maddy and Julian had gone undercover to prove a client had been taken advantage of by this scumbag, they would have made their case easily.

Unfortunately, Matlock did what it has done for far too much of the season: used this scenario as part of a larger plot that was difficult to understand.
This needs to stop.

It was one thing when Matlock Season 1 focused on Maddy getting evidence that someone had hidden the Wellbrexa file, but now these plots are sneaky and convoluted just to introduce unnecessary plot twists.
I know it’s beating a dead horse, especially since I seem to keep complaining about this week after week, but the Wellbrexa plot is way too dragged out and needs to be retired in favor of a real arc and renewed focus on the cases of the week.
Usually, those cases save the show from being completely unwatchable, but this case was harder to invest in than others because of several silly components.
Most of the case revolved around how the judge kept ruling against Olympia, supposedly because she didn’t like Olympia’s perceived relationship with her son.
I don’t understand why Olympia thought the solution was to pressure Remy to get his mother to stop ruling the way she did.

If a judge is ruling contrary to the law because of personal prejudice, there are procedures for addressing it, and Olympia knows that.
The only reason to bring it to Remy instead of going through the proper channels was to create drama in their developing relationship.
I’m not invested enough in that relationship to care, and this nonsense didn’t help that at all.

The case itself was the type that Olympia and Maddy were known for once upon a time: a tenant who was going up against a negligent landlord.
The drama should have come from Olympia trying to prove a case against a far wealthier, more cunning adversary who was playing fast and loose with the truth because he could.

Those are the cases that made Matlock must-see TV for me.
Maddy’s inner conflict between fighting for poor clients in court but believing her firm was responsible for her daughter’s death was so much more compelling than whatever it is that’s going on now.
Similarly, I’m not sure why we needed the shock ending of Shae getting arrested, which wasn’t much of a surprise since the show description said that would happen to one of the people on the case, and it wasn’t Olympia despite the judge’s vague accusation against her.
Shae is supposed to be insanely good at reading people, so there was no need for her to bribe jurors in any way obvious enough to get her in trouble.
Unless this is some ruse, it doesn’t make sense and feels like something inserted just to create a cliffhanger.

Sarah’s Story Was Interesting, But When Did She and Maddy Get So Close?
Ever since Billy left, Sarah has been spending most of her time being annoyed with his replacement.
I can’t blame her for that.
Hunter is more annoying than quirky so far, so it’s understandable that Sarah doesn’t particularly want. to work with him.
However, I was surprised that Maddy was so heartbroken about Sarah possibly moving into a different office.

I didn’t think that they were that close, even if Maddy’s encouraging Sarah to search for her birth parents gave us a rare glimpse into Maddy’s backstory, other than her struggle with Ellie’s addiction and death.
