Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival to be chock full of fun | News, Sports, Jobs

These mountain laurel flowers are just beginning to open.

The Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce is currently celebrating its 80th Annual Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival.

Events are to continue on throughout the week.

The Laurel Concert Series will kick off on Monday, June 13 at 7 p.m. with the Megan McGarry Trio at the Deane Center’s Coolidge Theatre. On Wednesday, Wellsboro Town Band will play at The Green at 7 p.m. On Thursday, Wellsboro Men’s & Women’s Choruses will play at First Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m.

There will be an Arts and Crafts Fair and International Street of food at The Green on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. The Queen’s Welcome will be at noon on Friday

at the Tioga County Courthouse Steps followed by the Queens’ Preview & Concert located at the Deane Center Outdoor Stage.

On Saturday, June 18, Radio Interviews with the 2021 PA State Laurel Queen and 2022 Queen Candidates will begin at 9 a.m. airing on KC101.5FM.

At 9 a.m. there will also be a 10k and 2 mile Fun Run at Packer Park and Juried Arts & Crafts Fair at The Green.

The Laurel Festival Parade will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday followed by Coronation of 2022 Laurel Queen, Coolidge Theatre, Deane Center at 6:30 p.m.

The weekend festivities will end with a church service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 19, at The Green.

The Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival got its start in 1938. It was conceived of by Larry Woodin, a local businessman who hoped to boost the economy of the Wellsboro area through promoting the beauty of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.
