Emergency responders were called to the site of a hang glider crash just after 10 a.m. Friday.
Mifflin County Coroner Daniel Lynch pronounced Samuel R. Peachey of Belleville dead at the scene.

ALLENSVILLE — A powered hang glider accident claimed the life of a Belleville man Friday morning in Menno Township.

Emergency responders were called to 100 Plane View Drive shortly after 10 a.m., where Samuel R. Peachey was pronounced dead at the scene by Mifflin County Coroner

Daniel Lynch.

The cause of death was blunt force trauma, according to a report from the coroner’s office.

The Federal Aviation Administration released the following information about the accident:

“An unregistered ultralight vehicle crashed in a field near Belleville, Pa., around 10 a.m. local time today. The vehicle does not meet the criteria to be defined as an aircraft. In these cases, the FAA defers the investigation to local enforcement.”

A powered hang glider, sometimes known as an ultralight, is a hang glider frame with a motor and propeller.

Emergency responders were Allensville Fire Company, Belleville Rescue, Big Valley EMS, FAME EMS and Pennsylvania State Police.
